Welcome to an unofficial home page of the Foundation for the Investigation of Reality (FIR). We are a registered non-profit and tax-exempt organization, and our primary purpose is to preserve and enhance a Master Index of the Writings of the Bahá'í Faith, and other spiritual texts, which was originally conceived and developed by the late Marian Crist Lippitt. We were formerly the Foundation for the Science of Reality. An important collection of Bahá'í sources was compiled by H. Emogene Hoagg, who published a short outline entitled, Three Worlds: Servitude, Prophethood, Deity, and who subsequently taught this model of reality to Marian Crist Lippitt. Hoagg herself was taught directly by 'Abdu'l-Bahá. In the course of creating the Master Index, Lippitt discovered a general model of reality which, she believed, was progressively revealed by the Prophets of the past and now brought into maturity by Bahá'u'lláh, the Prophet-Founder of the Bahá'í Faith, and His Son, 'Abdu'l-Bahá. Lippitt called her approach the Science of Reality. In addition, FIR promotes the systematic investigation of spiritual reality, including Bahá'í-inspired metaphysics, epistemology, ontology, ethics, spiritual psychology, and the historical and scriptural hermeneutics (interpretations) which develop through studying reality as presented by the world's spiritual traditions. Historical inquiries into these subject areas, both within the Bahá'í Faith and in the writings associated with other religions, are encouraged. The Foundation also encourages the study of the empirical (physical, biological, social, and behavioral) sciences as "bridges to reality." `Abdu'l-Bahá wrote, "The sciences of today are bridges to reality; if they lead not to reality, naught remains but fruitless illusion." (Selections from the Writings of `Abdu'l-Bahá, page 110) We are a non-profit membership organization, with an annually elected board of trustees. Our office is located next to the Green Acre Bahá'í School. You are warmly invited to join us.
We also have a mirror location. |
